Insignifiance complète des Grecs "modernes" : Atatürk figure dans la liste des "plus grands adversaires de la Grande-Bretagne", et pas Georgios Grivas (chef de l'EOKA)

Atatürk on the list of greatest enemy commanders of UK

ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News

Modern Turkey's founder, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was recently featured on a list of nominees for “Britain's Greatest Foes” for a recent survey conducted by the British National Army Museum.

The online poll aims to find the "greatest commander to face the British" and the 20-name list includes the likes of George Washington and Napoleon Bonaparte.

The website defines Atatürk "a skilled statesmen as well as a great soldier" who "forced the Allied invasion force to withdraw" during the Gallipoli battle in 1915.

Atatürk was a man "gracious to his enemies," the Army Museum said, referring to Atatürk's famous speech that wished the Allied soldiers killed to "rest in peace," saying "there is no difference to [Turkey] between the Johnnies and the Mehmets," who were now "[Turkey's] sons" as well.

Atatürk's military victories, as well as his political deeds, are outlined in detail on the website.

The website crashed earlier due to heavy demands from Turkish users following daily Hürriyet's news report on the poll.

The top winners will be represented at a special event organized by the National Army Museum on April 14.
